WVU will NEVER be a Big 10 School

Would WVU Join the Big 10/11?  I don’t think so. Homey Don’t Play Dat!

But apparently Eddie Griffin over at Bleacher Report thinks WVU would make a decent fit (a darkhorse) into the Big 10′s recent hyped up expansion talk.

Here is what he had to say about WVU:

There could be a dark horse candidate in West Virginia. West Virginia isn’t the worst fit geographically, and if they can continue their recent success on the gridiron, they offer up a name that’s known on a national level. West Virginia’s basketball program is also a consistent winner, and they have a nationally-known coach in Bob Huggins. It’s not exactly a sexy choice, but it’s one worth considering.

and then under the “Darkhorses” list:

1. West Virginia: From a competitive standpoint, they’d as great of a fit as can be on the gridiron and on the basketball court. As for travel, they’re pretty reasonable as well. But how big of a draw would they be?

Personally, I’m glad this idiot put this out there. We need them talking us down. The worst thing WVU could do would be to defect into the Big 10. Also, why are fans of the Big 10 teams so presumputous that just any team of their chosing would happily accept the invitation to join them? I think they might find it harder than they think. It’s a stuck up conference with a bunch of asshole fans… not very friendly either.

In football we are Top Dog in the Big East and have been for years now.  We have the BCS bid, which for now gives us a serious opportunity to make a Major Bowl. Why would we want to go into a conference that only really cares about Ohio St. and Meeechigan?

On the Basketball side we are in THE ELITE conference. The conference play alone makes our RPI so high getting into the tourney every year should be easy if we win 20 games.

I would never want to be associated with that crap conference and their obnoxious fans. Man, it makes me nauseous just thinking about it. ewwww.

So what do you guys think?

I would entertain joining the Big Ten.
If the Big Ten takes a current Big East team besides WVU. The BE would even lose the little respect it has now.
The BE would have to bring a team(S)in like a CUSA team.
Then people would really want the BE to lose its automatic bid for a BCS. The Big East is barely surviving now. I am not saying the BE is weak now but we are underrated every year as a conference even though we do hold our ground with the other BCS conferences.

I do agree it would hurt our BB program. That would be a down fall for BB. I was only talking about football. Just wanting to add that.

I find it humorous that big 10 fans don’t give any BE accomplishments any credit or validity, but turn around and think it’s a good idea to rape and pillage the Be conference to boost tv market.

Here’s a few suggestions for you big 10 elitists, if you want more people to watch your football games try playing someone other than akron, temple, youngstown st., etc., second, try to keep up with the current football movement and get away from the 1950s era style of play….BORING, and lastly, get rid of joepa already.

    the big 10 can LMB.

Won’t happen for the simple reason of funding other athletic events and percieved academic quality. I am however a firm beliver in the students making their own quality. Beyond football and basketball realm WVU Is not a good fit. Notre Dame is the overall better choice.

As a hybrid OSU and WVU fan, I really don't want them to join the Big 10. I am from WVU, and have many alumni in my family, but I have lived in Columbus for over 20 years, and have many OSU alumni in my family. I love both teams and I love that I can root for both of them because they almost NEVER play each other. WVU would get ALOT more respect in football if they could win in the Big Ten, and I think they would mop up in basketball. However, they don't bring any large TV markets in, and I don't necessarily know how good their academics are. Let's be honest though WVU fans, can HONESTLY tell me you wouldn't enjoy having a shot having Michigan come into Morgantown and beat RichRod?

West Virginia has actually applied to join the Big 10 in the past…

WVU should go to the Big Ten if they get the chance; Pitt or Rutgers will jump if asked and the BE will have to replace them. We (Big East) should also try to get up to 10 teams ASAP. I'd recommend East Carolina for one. Maybe UCF and/or MTSU.

Post Script comment: Perhaps the University of Kentucky would like to come to the Big East. They've gotta be tired of the doormat position in the SEC by now.

In case you forgot, you're in the Big East lol….in football talk, your below the ACC and barely about the Mountain West. WV would be a middle of the road football team in the Big Ten

Middle of the road in football, maybe, and first in basketball every year! That's not a bad trade-off.

The Big East is a starter conference, from which Teams will continue to be stolen from. BE needs to expand to 10 or 12 football teams, or just go away. I'd take WVU going to the B10, or even better…SEC.

    Lets Go Mountaineers!!

It would be absolutely retarded to pass up an invite to the big 10. Being in the big 10 would mean so much more money for the school and the state. WVU would have more notariety, and a chance to be competitive from the get go in a conference that continually sends teams to national championships (regardless of talent). I know that WVU has the most rowdy obnoxious fans there are, so to read someone criticize big 10 fans, makes me question the original blog! I agree that big 10 teams have been over rated the passed few years, and OSU fans are pretty smug, but Probably the only thing that would keep WVU from the big 10 would be our classless, couch burning fans. The big 10 would be scared that some idiot would follow thru with a Rich Rod death threat.

Listen, I am a fan of both Ohio State and West Virginia. I was born a Mountaineer, and raised a Buckeye. And i have to say evan, that you are severly delusional to believe that WVA 'is better than most big ten teams and would have smoked OSU 3 years ago'. The big ten is a completely different monster than the big east, and while i agree that OSU should not have been in a couple title games, they were and are still one of the premier teams in college football. WVA had their chances at Ohio State, though not many. They are 1-5 against the buckeyes, with the lone win coming in 1897. Since then, every game has been a blowout Buckeye victory, the last being in 1998.
