WVU falls out of the rankings in both basketball polls.

To cap off the worst month of being a Mountaineer fan in recent history, the West Virginia Mountaineer basketball team fell out of both the AP and the USA Today/Coaches poll. WVU fell from 23rd last week to 31st in the AP poll with 15 measly voting points while in the coaches they fell from 23rd to 29th just 29 points behind Saint Mary’s and Wisconsin for the Top 25 spot.

The Mountaineers can easily reclaim the Top 25 spot with wins this week against Notre Dame and Marquette. The Golden Eagles for this week happen to be ranked 10th in the AP and 11th in the Coaches Poll.

To point how crucial the loss to Oklahoma was on Saturday night their RPI rating for the moment is 65th with a schedule strength of 144th. Those ratings are shown on CBS Sportsline. If the Mountaineer team can get a huge road win on Thursday and a big win over a Top 25 team on Sunday their road to an NCAA Tournament will be right back on track.

Let’s not forget about the fact that the WVU’s women basketball team is now ranked 17th in the AP poll. They start their Big East Conference slate this Saturday as they face South Florida at the USF dome.

Good luck to both teams this week and GOOOOOOOOOOOOO Mountaineers!
