JackAss of the Year Award goes to….
By MountaineerBob on Nov 27, 2007 in Football, Rantings

Mike Freeman over at CBSSportsline.com has written an article (if you want to call it that) titled Give me Trojans-Buckeyes over a Missouri-West Virginia snoozefest. I thought everyone would enjoy this one. Saw this coming a mile away.. the haters.
He does the oh-so-old and very unoriginal West Virginia Hick and Hee Haw jokes at the beginning of the article. That really doesn’t bother me. I was over all of that stereotypical bull shit when I was 5. Instead, this is what got me going:
I want to see this game because it would be the least anticipated and most undesirable title game in modern college football history. It would be so unwanted by most of the country that it could finally be the spark to force the arrogant snobs and fat-cat sheiks that run college football to start a playoff system.
So while Hicks vs. Hee-haws would be dreadful to watch, we should all root for it because it could change college football as we know it for the better.
and
My argument is much simpler. By the end of the season West Virginia and Missouri won’t be the two best teams in the country. Southern California and Ohio State will be. In fact, they probably are now. Even Georgia is better than the Mountaineers and Tigers right now.
Are you kidding me with this? That is the same crap they (the writers) were spewing 2 years ago before the Sugar Bowl and we all know how that ended up. He continues:
The states of Missouri and West Virginia will watch the game and no one else will. Crickets won’t chirp; they’ll be too bored. They’ll snore.
The television ratings will rival those of the Pat Sajak Show.
America will yawn.
Good.
Then maybe college football will do the right thing and go to a playoff system. Finally. Thankfully.
This guy should just be thankful he even has a job writing for CBS Sports and quit wasting time talking smack on what will turn out to be a great game that will solidify WVU as a power house “traditional” program, make the networks a butt load of cash and satisfy the majority of non Ohio State/USC fans. [Make sure you also read Dodd's article and vote in the poll]
I know he’s writing this crap to get Mountaineer fans all pissed off but I think we should let him know what you think. Click here and send Mr. Freeman an email. Make sure you keep your comments smart and to the point. He’s been known to post the hate mail he receives. Probably because he has nothing important to write about and realizes the only way to get people to read his articles is to talk smack.
You know, just like here on this blog.
Also, saw this article about our new friend Mike Freeman. CBS keepin’ it classy. Guess we shouldn’t really listen to anything he has to say anyway.

I see I’m not the only one that has heard the “hate talk” start up. It’s a fact, the media hates WVU. They will never gives us the respect. Are they scared that we are actually a National Program now? Maybe.
Over at LGDSB.com they are talking about how Herbshit was talking about how OSU doesn’t want to play WVU in the NCG because it’s not the the game it should be. They want to beat USC. This is just a bunch of BS. Ohio State is scared shitless of WVU and they know they can’t beat us. They can’t cover the spread, we would destroy them and they know it.

Former Ohio State coach Earle Bruce was on the John Corby radio talk show and he said that the Ohio State team would jump over the Mountaineers in the polls and that OSU would beat WVU easily. He claims that WVU has a very weak schedule. This was on a show that aired a couple of days before the Connecticut game.

Also, CFN has a semi decent column about this issue. OSU or WVU in the national champ game. I think/hope we get to play OSU to shut them up. Just notice in this article that the 2 our of the 3 big name writers (Pete and John) picked WVU as the “deserving” one loss teams to play in the NCG. Richard has a history of hating WVU so that’s no surprise and the other two guys.. well notice their names are tiny… like their opinions.

Chuck,
OSU’s strength of schedule is 46th and ours is 48th.

Jim Rome said on his radio show yesterday that OSU don’t want any of WVU…If OSU thinks Florida had speed last year in the butt whooping they dished out…the Mountaineers would blow you out OSU fans!

Hey, Check out this article
by Wetzel over at Yahoo. He lays out what could/should happen with a playoff system. I think this works. Maybe cut it to 8 teams?
Anyway, to Mr. Freeman, I noticed the callout in Wetzels article about why there isn’t a playoff system right now and part of the problem is your precious Big Ten Commish, Jim Delany. Wonder why he doesn’t want to see a playoff? Probably because then it would expose the current state of the Big Ten - WEAK.

I agree that I can overlook the Hick/Heehaw nonsense. But, did anyone noticed Mr. Freeman’s suggestion that residents of West Virginia pratice incest? I found that to be truly offensive and would hope to see some kind of apology.

I agree, that was uncalled for. I was born and raised in WV and never met one person who knew or knew of any incestuous practices.
Funny how in Pennsylvania it’s LEGAL to marry your first cousin and in WV it is ILLEGAL.
