Some Positive Press

There is a lot out there this week about how WVU shouldn’t be in the big game. Well, there are just as many smart college football reporters out there writing positive articles about how we belong in New Orleans.

Terry Bowden, one of the most respected “coach turned journalist” says in his article titled Fitting Finale:

We don’t need to see the same old same old in the championship game this year. I have no desire to see Ohio State get back in the game. We saw them play in it last year and we’ll probably see them play in it next year. They have the best players, the best facilities and the best tradition. But they lost to Illinois in the next-to-last game of the season and didn’t really earn the right. Georgia could slide in with a 9-2 record. They are playing great football right now and coach Mark Richt has probably done his finest job. But they lost to South Carolina and Tennessee and although they are one of the traditional powers, they just don’t get the blood boiling when it comes to a championship game.

I totally agree with Terry on this. To me, the 2007 season of college football is what it’s all about. The upsets, the drama, the upsets…it’s great. If your a real fan of college football you are going to remember this season as one of the most exciting in history, no matter who ends up playing in the NCG.

This week has exposed OSU fans as a bunch of cry baby ass bitches. They need to respect the teams that are in the title hunt. They expect everyone else in the country to respect OSU but how can anyone respect an OSU fan? Seriously.

Dennis Dodd’s article about why WVU/Mizzou is the better matchup is just great, alhtough he’s a Mizzou Grad he still makes a great point here:

If the NCAA decides to make a highlight film of 2007, it should be 15 minutes of Missouri’s offense, 15 minutes of West Virginia’s offense and 30 minutes of a defensive back with his weeping face buried in his hands.

West Virginia and Missouri conjure visions of pinball machines. The nation’s No. 2 rushing offense — ping! ping! ping! — vs. the country’s No. 5 passing offense. You’d need a curfew because the championship game starts at 7 p.m. local time. Five hours later we’d be in the third quarter.

Ohio State? There’s no story there. Sen. Jim Tressel (R-Columbus) and his well-rested squad spent 51 days last year getting ready for a game they lost by 27 points. This time they would have sat on their, uh, laurels for 15 days before being awarded a trip to New Orleans. That isn’t game prep, it’s water boarding.

John Harris at College Football News says:

I think that West Virginia deserves that spot over Ohio State and over any other one loss team. The Mountaineers had one loss on the road in a tough environment early in the season, while Ohio State lost at home in November. Does it matter when a team loses? Heck, yes. In this system that we have, it sure does. The Big East is better overall this season than the Big Ten; that doesn’t always indicate that the champion from that conference should be in the game, but here, it does help bolster the argument.

Frank Ahrens at Bleacher Report writes a great smart ass article about how stupid it is to argue that the best teams don’t belong in the National Champ Game…

The situation is also reminiscent of second-generation immigrants decrying the flood of new immigrants coming to American and stealing jobs. To those who think the BCS-is-a-mess, only teams that have won or played for a national championship should be allowed to play for it again. (But, how do you get there in the first place? Oh, never mind with those details!)

This is fabulous. This is radical evolution, to borrow a phrase from a colleague. It’s frightening and upsetting to the establishment but it’s thrilling to those of us on the cutting edge.

I’m sure the negative attitude toward WVU and the National Championship Game will continue. But it is nice to see there are people out there than are true fans and can appreciate what we have this year, a great season!

Also, there are more articles out there. If you find any feel free to put them in the comments so we can all read the truth, and as always LET’S GO MOUNTAINEERS!!!
