Rumor mill, Polls, and other randomness

Remind you of something?The dust is settling on the 2007-08 football season and the end of season rankings, 2008 preseason polls, and year in review articles are out and our Mountaineers are all over the place. Also, in the middle of all this “year end hoopla” is the seemingly never ending WV coaching carousel. I’ve tried to absorb it all and spit it back out at ya. If I missed something throw it in the comments.

Rumor Mill:

  1. Rumor of the day: Pete Carroll is in talks with the Atlanta Falcons. Actually this has nothing to do with WVU but I love this because it puts USC in our shoes and will probably finally get all of the Rich Fraud news off the ESPN headline page. See ya Pete! I wonder how long it will take USC to call Bowden, Saban, Bilichick, Jimbo Fisher and hell, why not give Rich Rod a call, I’m sure he’s already looking for something to do after his 5-7 season next year.
  2. A bunch of good ol’ boys are coming home! You name them and it’s been reported that they are on their way back to WVU to coach. Doc Holliday, Rick Trickett, Nick Saban, the list seems to be never ending.
  3. The New Offensive Coach is ???? Brian Kelly or Scott Satterfield or Terry Bowden or Rick Trickett or Chris Hatcher or Jim Zorn or Doug Berry or Marc Trestman or Blane Morgan or Charlie Taaffe or Kent Austin or.. ENOUGH!!! I say we all just sit back and watch a true Mountaineer Billy Stewart put together a coaching staff that will (in his own words) SHOCK THE WORLD. Do any of these names shock? Probably not because only us mega WV Football dorks know who most of these guys are.
  4. Steve Slaton is staying for his Senior year!!! I hope this one is true. The idea of having Pat White, Steve Slaton, and Noel Devine running a sick spread offense is just makes me all weepy.
  5. Rich Rods family is being harassed by the people of WV. I don’t understand why anyone would give a shit about his family anymore. If he was going to run to the press with this story he should have done it before Coach Stu beat the shit out of OU, then I might have believed it more. I hope it’s not true though, why stoop to his level?

Year End Articles:

CFN put out a list of 100 Stars of the 2007-2008 Bowl Season. Here are the WVU players to make the list:  #61 – Noel Devine, #34 – Pat White, #28 – WV the team and the state!, #3 – WVU Coach Bill Stewart. This is a great list and Billy is on the cover. To read the particulars check it out here.

Also on CFN you’ll find their Final Rankings. I want to point out that CFN is the only Know-It-All mag site that gets it right. They put us at #2!!!! behind LSU. Right on CFN! Weird thing is they put OU as #3??

The “Official” Final Rankings are out and WVU landed at #6 in both the AP and USA Today polls. BCS hasn’t released their rankings yet. Don’t know what the hell they are waiting for dammit but my prediction is #5. Master Coaches Poll has us at #4! CBS Sportsline has us at #6.

The Big 10 Lovin’ BCS Guru is in total denial. Speed AND Coaching wins and the Big 10 is slow and they get out coached. Sorry just had to go there one more time.

It’s late and there is a butt load more out there, if you find something good post it. It’s time I move on and start thinking basketball but it’s hard to step away from a crazy year and stop basking in the Fiesta Bowl light. Hopefully Huggs can help us bask in the Final Four lights.
