Louisville dodges a bullet… #8??? »

Lousiville sucksA breath of fresh air flows over Morgantown tonight as we all watch #8 Louisville struggle against a low level Middle Tennessee Blue whatcha’who’s zats???

Brohm and his running back Anthony Allen had to break two school records to win this game… they had to put out big time to win against a scrub team.
This is good news to WVU fans. The Cards are not all they are cracked up to be. I think they will drop in the rankings this week. You can’t come this close to blowing it almost becoming Michigan Part Deux this early in the season without some ranking consequences. This just goes to prove what I’ve thought all along… THE CARDS SUCK!!! See y’all in November!

Tailgate Review: Week 1 »

Tailgating In MorgantownEveryone’s favorite thing, 2nd only to the actual game, is tailgating at Mountaineer Stadium. I will post a short “review” of how things went down at every home game this year. Feel free to add to this in the comments section and in the forums.

Weather: Little too warm for my liking for a tailgate but nice and warm, 85 - 90 degrees, no clouds, slight breeze.
Traffic: We arrived in Morgantown from Pittsburgh around 11:00 am, kick off was 3:30pm. There was no traffic at all getting into Morgantown. A little heavy around the Coliseum, but other than that not bad at all.
Parking: Paid $30 to park above the Light Blue Lot. A little pricey if you ask me, but I knew from experience, paying for a good spot is essential. The lot was well maintained and felt safe, (see post about my cooler getting stolen last year). Not a lot of tailgating going on in this lot though, a few but more upscale and not “Pit-like”.
Atmosphere: As usual. AWESOME. People were jazzed about the rankings this year and the prospect of going 12-0 and finally getting the respect we deserve. I will say though, things at the beginning were a little less crazy that usual. But it did get crazy, toward the start of the game.

It was a beauty-ful day in Morgantown on Saturday. Not a cloud in the sky (I know this from the sunburn I got, and yes I applied SPF twice!), the smell of bratz and pepperoni rolls filled the air, and the sounds of bottle caps crackin’ open were everywhere. Everyone seemed to be a very calm and collected mood. Not as rowdy as it was last year for the Marshall season opener last year.

WVU, so good it’s boring? »

I’ve been reading a lot of commentary about the opening season today and have noticed something. It seems the story has gotten old. WVU has become so good and so consistent, there we aren’t “good story” for reporters anymore.

Last night on ESPN they were doing a run down of the top 10 college plays of the week. Of course, we all know what the #1 play of the week was. It was a play by a Mountaineer, just the wrong Mountaineer. By the way, way to go Appalachian State! We Mountaineers have to stick together and it’s always nice to see punks in the Big Ten get embarrassed.

Anyway, a run by Steve Slaton was #8, and the broadcast jackass just blew right by #8 and said, “yeah, yeah, West Virginia doing what it does now.” I didn’t know what to think. In a way it’s great that we are so consistently good that it’s (to them) not exciting. Then it hit me, the college football press has finally accepted WVU as a national player. We are no longer the ASU’s that have “big upsets. ” It’s expected for us to win, now the story has changed. If we lose there is a story to tell.

So what does this mean for the program in the future?

Added pressure on staying consistent. I think we will find this harder and more annoying than trying to fight our way to the top and kick that Big Least black cloud that used to hang over our head. I’ve always said I like being the underdog better, but those times have changed. It’s going to be an interesting season if your a Mountaineer fan.. er, WVU fan.

Mountaineers Season Opener: First Impressions »

It was a great day of tailgating and football in Morgantown, WV yesterday. I’m back at the house, and recovering from a long day of sun and beer and pepperoni rolls.

I didn’t get to see all of the first half but my fist impressions are that we have a solid team that is going to live up to the hype. Devine got some playing time in the 2nd half, even got a TD. (i got it on film & will post it later today).

I’m going to sift through the articles and stats and give a more in depth review of the game, and of course talk about the tailgate scene and all of the exciting things going on this year in Mountaineer Country!

And it begins! »

It’s 9:30 am and we are getting ready to walk out the door. I hope everyone has a great time and I’ll talk to everyone when I get back. Be safe and drink a beer for me, cause I’ll be drinking one for you.

Let’s Go Mountaineers!

Here is the new “entrance” video and music for the Mounties this year.

Let’s Bring On The Mountaineers! »

Less that one day till kick-off, it’s going to be tough to sleep tonight. Found this on YouTube and it sent chills down my spine. Enjoy.

Big East dominates on opening night 2007 »

The Big East had three teams playing on Opening Night 2007. Louisville, Rutgers, & Cincy. The games are now over and things got BigShizzy Nasty!

Total points tonight: Big East teams = 170 Opponents = 16…..Big Least my ass.

Questions: Does WVU need to run up the score against the scrubby but respectable Western Michigan U? Is it necessary? Does running up the stats help or hurt? Will it effect the polls? What if WVU only wins by 30 and not 60?

Personally, I think once you get a lead like Louisville did early, put in the 2nd & 3rd string. I want to see Devine touch the ball a few times. I want to see Brown get some play time early in the season. Lets round out the team with play time experience. Slaton will win the Heisman without getting 5 touchdowns in the first game. Save it for the conference games.

Thank god football season has finally started! Let’s Go Mounties!

Thoughts on: ESPN, Sirius, White, the official site launch »

Watch ESPN tomorrow. They have this 25 hours of college football kick off to the season, which starts tomorrow night at 8pm. Finally.

Sirius and XM Radio will be airing every Mountaineer game this year, not sure about XM but Sirius has a listing of all the college games here.

Some guy on ESPN Radio today said that Pat White is the best QB in the NCAA this year. Finally some props for White in a Slaton heavy media blitz.

Look for us at the WMU game this weekend and pick up a complimentary 2007 Schedule Card. This is the “official” launch of WVMountaineerSports.com!
