You know, it doesn’t get any better than this… »

…that is until Saturday night!!!!! Someone give me a damn Milwaukee’s Best NOW!

I’ve been more games than I can count and have never seen this happen, a 45 point rout and not ONE person left the game early just so they could chant BCS! BCS! and sing Country Roads.. sends chills down my spine. I was there, I’ll never forget it.

Fire Mike Freeman »

Damian commented about this petition going around that call for CBS to fire Mike Freeman. Personally, I’m over this and really don’t want to waste time on this asshole, but what the hell, lets see if we can get this jagoff fired.

‘Twas The Night Before PITT »

I’ve been getting mad emails about this one. It’s great if you haven’t read it yet take a minute, print it out, recite it at your xmas dinner. I know I will. Wish WVMS.com would have came up with this one but it’s from a reliable source… here.

Twas the night before PITTSBURGH, when all through my mind,
Were visions of couch burnings, both yours and mine.
Firemen were resting and acting quite lazy,
But they knew that things were about to get crazy.

The players were nestled, Markell did his dreds,
While visions of N.O. danced in their heads.
There were Quinton’s gold teeth, Larry’s son in his lap,
While the quarterback made noises to sound like a cat.

When down in the end zone there arose such a noise,
They sprang from their homes and called all their boys.
To the field they flew, fast as Devine,
Making sure to pick up the offensive line.

The invaders had arrived at the stadium early,
These Panthers were looking noticeably surly.
There was a point to this late-night trip through the hills,
They were out on the field doing defensive drills.

With a dapper old coach who combed his mustache,
You knew in a moment it must be Wannstedt.
He’d made his name as a defensive master,
And he whistled and shouted for them to run faster!

“Watch Slaton! Watch Schmitt! Watch Reynaud and White!
Watch option! Watch bubble! Could be a rough night!
Let’s stand at the goal line and build a big wall,

Funny, but Wrong »

My rock star buddy sent me a funny link from a Georgia blog starring Adult Swim’s Carl called BCS: Bad College Stupid

[EDIT by Mountaineerbob]
Ok I don’t care who you’re a fan of, this is funny. I decided to put it on our site for that reason. If you can’t laugh at this there is just something wrong with you. I love adult swim and ATHF is the best and Carl is the epitome of a OSU/USC/LSU/PSU/MICH/FSU fan. The problem is that the Georgia blog that posted this probably agrees with Carl and like JWilson said, it’s simply WRONG.

Some Positive Press »

There is a lot out there this week about how WVU shouldn’t be in the big game. Well, there are just as many smart college football reporters out there writing positive articles about how we belong in New Orleans.

Terry Bowden, one of the most respected “coach turned journalist” says in his article titled Fitting Finale:

We don’t need to see the same old same old in the championship game this year. I have no desire to see Ohio State get back in the game. We saw them play in it last year and we’ll probably see them play in it next year. They have the best players, the best facilities and the best tradition. But they lost to Illinois in the next-to-last game of the season and didn’t really earn the right. Georgia could slide in with a 9-2 record. They are playing great football right now and coach Mark Richt has probably done his finest job. But they lost to South Carolina and Tennessee and although they are one of the traditional powers, they just don’t get the blood boiling when it comes to a championship game.

I totally agree with Terry on this. To me, the 2007 season of college football is what it’s all about. The upsets, the drama, the upsets…it’s great. If your a real fan of college football you are going to remember this season as one of the most exciting in history, no matter who ends up playing in the NCG.

This week has exposed OSU fans as a bunch of cry baby ass bitches. They need to respect the teams that are in the title hunt. They expect everyone else in the country to respect OSU but how can anyone respect an OSU fan? Seriously.

Dennis Dodd’s article about why WVU/Mizzou is the better matchup is just great, alhtough he’s a Mizzou Grad he still makes a great point here:

If the NCAA decides to make a highlight film of 2007, it should be 15 minutes of Missouri’s offense, 15 minutes of West Virginia’s offense and 30 minutes of a defensive back with his weeping face buried in his hands.

West Virginia and Missouri conjure visions of pinball machines. The nation’s No. 2 rushing offense — ping! ping! ping! — vs. the country’s No. 5 passing offense. You’d need a curfew because the championship game starts at 7 p.m. local time. Five hours later we’d be in the third quarter.

Ohio State? There’s no story there. Sen. Jim Tressel (R-Columbus) and his well-rested squad spent 51 days last year getting ready for a game they lost by 27 points. This time they would have sat on their, uh, laurels for 15 days before being awarded a trip to New Orleans. That isn’t game prep, it’s water boarding.

John Harris at College Football News says:

I think that West Virginia deserves that spot over Ohio State and over any other one loss team. The Mountaineers had one loss on the road in a tough environment early in the season, while Ohio State lost at home in November. Does it matter when a team loses? Heck, yes. In this system that we have, it sure does. The Big East is better overall this season than the Big Ten; that doesn’t always indicate that the champion from that conference should be in the game, but here, it does help bolster the argument.

Frank Ahrens at Bleacher Report writes a great smart ass article about how stupid it is to argue that the best teams don’t belong in the National Champ Game…

The situation is also reminiscent of second-generation immigrants decrying the flood of new immigrants coming to American and stealing jobs. To those who think the BCS-is-a-mess, only teams that have won or played for a national championship should be allowed to play for it again. (But, how do you get there in the first place? Oh, never mind with those details!)

This is fabulous. This is radical evolution, to borrow a phrase from a colleague. It’s frightening and upsetting to the establishment but it’s thrilling to those of us on the cutting edge.

I’m sure the negative attitude toward WVU and the National Championship Game will continue. But it is nice to see there are people out there than are true fans and can appreciate what we have this year, a great season!

Also, there are more articles out there. If you find any feel free to put them in the comments so we can all read the truth, and as always LET’S GO MOUNTAINEERS!!!

Now we do it Huggs way… »

Yes I guess what I was reading today was true. The boys really like Huggins style of ball.
Maryland-Eastern Shore: 44
WVU: 110
I know MES is a small school and they have lost 33 of its last 38 games, but damn.

Couchburner Smolders: Worst, Worster, & Worsterest Persons in College Football »

Couchburners WorstIf Mike Freeman is the WORST person in College Football [see this post] then let me introduce you to the Worster and Worsterest persons in College Football.

KirkThe WORSTER PERSON title goes to…Kirk Herbstreit. Here’s how out of touch this guy is with the ESPN fan base. On today’s Good Call/Bad Call, Kirk blessed us with his infinite wisdom…

Question 1: This season proves college football needs a playoff system. 77% say Good Call. Kirk’s response…survey says…Bad Call. What the F? He just proved that he sold out to the deep pockets behind the BCS system and is becoming the spokesman for the BCS. I say shame on you ESPN.

Question 2: USC is the nation’s best team right now. 91% say Bad Call. Kirk’s response…survey says…Good Call. His reasoning is that USC is the best team in the country…right now. Huh? Funny that he says that because later in the broadcast he listed his Top 5 as: 1. Missouri, 2. WVU, 3. OSU, 4. Georgia, 5. USC. Kirk, leave the flip-flopping to politicians.

Question 3: Darren McFadden jumped Tim Tebow for the Heisman Trophy. 53% believe Tebow should be the front runner. Kirks response…survey says…Bad call. He rambled about McFadden’s effort against LSU. Hello Kirk, the Heisman encompasses the ENTIRE season. Granted, both players have been very impressive this year, but Tebow has been unstoppable. If he doesn’t win the Heisman, then it’s just as big of a fraud as the BCS proponents.

DRUM ROLL PLEASE

Mike T.The WORSTEREST PERSON in College Football is….Mike Trangrese, the Big East Commissioner, for agreeing to a deal with the Gator Bowl and Big 12 officials that allows the Gator Bowl to pick a Big 12 team instead of a Big East rep this year. So instead of UCONN playing the likes of BC, VT or Virginia, they will be playing the ACC’s fifth or sixth place team in the Meineke Bowl. Either Texas Tech or Texas will be playing in Jacksonville on New Year’s Day, plus have a rep in the Cotton Bowl to boot. How does this benefit the Big East?

other things that i find interesting…another ESPN poll about if Hawaii deserves a BCS bowl if they go undefeated…the only states to have a majority voting NO were…Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi. Hawaii is projected to play LSU in the Sugar Bowl. Are the Bayou Bengal faithful getting worried? Heaven forbid if another SEC powerhouse loses another “home” BCS game to a “lesser” opponent. The Sugar Bowl won’t be so sweet for the Tigers.

Mountaineer determination… »

Went to the football training room yesterday- the boys are all very excited but focused, and look forward to the atmosphere this weekend. Thought I should remind everyone that it’s our duty to make it one hard to play in:

Earlier in the season, after our loss to, as Rich Rod called them, “that team down south”, I wrote an article asking everyone not to lose faith in our football team. I wanted to remind everyone about the determination our boys had, and just who we were- the West Virginia Mountaineers.

And this weekend, those same Mountaineers are going to be playing one-if not the-biggest game in school history, as the highest ranked squad in school history. It is not only our obligation, but our privilege, to show as much support for this team as humanly achievable.

So this weekend, go to the game. WEAR GOLD and BE LOUD. It’s the 100th Backyard Brawl. It’s Pitt AT West Virginia. Let’s be the 12th man for our team. And let’s bring “Almost Heaven” a little closer to just that.

JackAss of the Year Award goes to…. »

JackAss of the Year

Mike Freeman over at CBSSportsline.com has written an article (if you want to call it that) titled Give me Trojans-Buckeyes over a Missouri-West Virginia snoozefest. I thought everyone would enjoy this one. Saw this coming a mile away.. the haters.

He does the oh-so-old and very unoriginal West Virginia Hick and Hee Haw jokes at the beginning of the article. That really doesn’t bother me. I was over all of that stereotypical bull shit when I was 5. Instead, this is what got me going:

I want to see this game because it would be the least anticipated and most undesirable title game in modern college football history. It would be so unwanted by most of the country that it could finally be the spark to force the arrogant snobs and fat-cat sheiks that run college football to start a playoff system.

So while Hicks vs. Hee-haws would be dreadful to watch, we should all root for it because it could change college football as we know it for the better.

and

My argument is much simpler. By the end of the season West Virginia and Missouri won’t be the two best teams in the country. Southern California and Ohio State will be. In fact, they probably are now. Even Georgia is better than the Mountaineers and Tigers right now.

Are you kidding me with this? That is the same crap they (the writers) were spewing 2 years ago before the Sugar Bowl and we all know how that ended up. He continues:

The states of Missouri and West Virginia will watch the game and no one else will. Crickets won’t chirp; they’ll be too bored. They’ll snore.

The television ratings will rival those of the Pat Sajak Show.

America will yawn.

Good.

Then maybe college football will do the right thing and go to a playoff system. Finally. Thankfully.

This guy should just be thankful he even has a job writing for CBS Sports and quit wasting time talking smack on what will turn out to be a great game that will solidify WVU as a power house “traditional” program, make the networks a butt load of cash and satisfy the majority of non Ohio State/USC fans. [Make sure you also read Dodd's article and vote in the poll]

I know he’s writing this crap to get Mountaineer fans all pissed off but I think we should let him know what you think. Click here and send Mr. Freeman an email. Make sure you keep your comments smart and to the point. He’s been known to post the hate mail he receives. Probably because he has nothing important to write about and realizes the only way to get people to read his articles is to talk smack.

You know, just like here on this blog.

Also, saw this article about our new friend Mike Freeman. CBS keepin’ it classy. Guess we shouldn’t really listen to anything he has to say anyway.
