Mountaineers Season Opener: First Impressions
By MountaineerBob on Sep 2, 2007 in Football
It was a great day of tailgating and football in Morgantown, WV yesterday. I’m back at the house, and recovering from a long day of sun and beer and pepperoni rolls.
I didn’t get to see all of the first half but my fist impressions are that we have a solid team that is going to live up to the hype. Devine got some playing time in the 2nd half, even got a TD. (i got it on film & will post it later today).
I’m going to sift through the articles and stats and give a more in depth review of the game, and of course talk about the tailgate scene and all of the exciting things going on this year in Mountaineer Country!

That was a hell of an impressive first game. I noticed 2 things that we didn’t see at all last season-that I hope keep coming.
First, did you see our defensive rush? Yes, I mean when we put more than 3 guys on the line and actually pulled off a few sacks! That was something we were poorly missing in um…that ECU game, or perhaps that USF game?
Second, our ability to go to the air when the ground stalled. This shouldn’t seem so odd, because we can pass! But it sure felt a tad bit strange. Either way, most teams will probably challenge our stubby offensive line. So I’m hoping we keep up a strong air game. We might need it this year, especially if we have any desire to win a national championship.

I agree, the defense did pick it up a notch in the opener. Last years ECU and USF game lacked any D and we seemed to be sleeping through the whole game.
All of the sports reporters are finally starting to see what all us WVU fans knew all along, that White can throw! If we could put as many yards in the air as we try to on the ground forget about it. one last thing, The First Noel! I already have a place in my heart for this kid. Did you hear the crowd cheer him on for his first run… one whole yard. Had to make him feel at home!
