Keys to Victory: WVU vs. USF

Keys to victory for WVU

  • Get ahead quick. Anytime you play an overrated team it is necessary to get ahead early to keep them from building any confidence.
  • Establish the passing game in the first quarter. USF will come out with as many as they can cram in the box, and play man to man behind it. They have mentioned several times this week that their defensive backs are better than our wide-outs, make them prove it early and spread the field vertically.
  • Use experience to beat the hype. With WVU having two of USF’s former coaches and with tons of experience in big games, act like you’ve done this before and come out with a victory.

Keys to victory for USF

  • Force WVU to pass the ball by putting eight in the box and shutting down the run.
  • Play assignment football. This is a staple vs. any good spread option offense.
  • Use WR height to your advantage. USF’s wide receivers must use their height as an advantage, especially in the red-zone.
  • Keep the crowd in the game. WVU relies on audibles from the line. If this is really, “The Game of the Century” then do whatever it takes to keep the crowd in the game, for the whole game.

    Key for WVU:
GOOD ONE PATRICK: Pat Mcafee can’t miss tonight. We will need every point we can get and if it comes down to the last seconds of the game and it’s 34 - 34, we’ll need his foot to close the game.

This game is not going to be as close a people think. WVU runs wild and quiets the crowd early…just like we did with Maryland’s “Blackout.”

    From AOL Sports:
“West Virginia -6½ at South Florida: It is oh so tempting to take South Florida and the points in this game. For one thing, the Bulls upset West Virginia in Morgantown last season. For another, it’s the biggest game on South Florida’s schedule, and after its defense took care of Auburn, the scope of this game for the Bulls’ program is much, much bigger.

But the Mountaineers aren’t that easy to dismiss. First, last season’s upset came the week after West Virginia lost to Louisville, ending the Mountaineers BCS title hopes. Secondly, quarterback Patrick White is playing better than ever — he hit on 18-of-20 passes last week. Finally, the West Virginia defense, ranked 15th nationally, is the best defense coach Rich Rodriguez has put on the field at West Virginia.

The pick: West Virginia. It seems that all the pressure is going to be on South Florida.”

I agree, I do get nervous when I think of last year and how we always seem to blow it.

I think we’ll shut the crowd down early (expect for the 20,000 mountaineer fans that are invading Tampa tonight)

Also, I smell a deep pass on the first down of the first WVU possession of the game. Hit em early in the air!

Hell yeah, first play, come out guns a blazin…or a reverse to Raynaud.
