Jumping the gun with the RR fiasco

A few hours have passed and I’ve cooled off a bit about the whole Rich Rodriguez going to Michigan fiasco. The more I think about it and read about it, it seems this is some sort of chess game that RR and the AD go through every year.

There are all kinds of theories out there today. Here are a few:

  • Rich is using Michigan to get some buzz going about him for recruiting. This seems to be working too. Today WVU snatched Taylor Hill right out of Oklahoma’s hands. Why would a recruit jump ship and come to WVU without knowing for sure the coach that recruited him isn’t even going to be there next year? Maybe they know something we don’t. I just hope this works for Pryor.
  • Rich is trying to get some promises from last year finalized. Apparently not all of his wishes were met after last years contracts. Maybe this is his way of saying “hey look, they still want me, give me what I need, I’ve been here longer than Huggins and he’s getting all kinds of shit”
  • Rich is trying to make people forget about the PITT game. Might be working, but I’ll never forget that choke.
  • Rich is jealous of all the attention the other coaches are getting. He just wants to be part of the “turn down Michigan” club.

Got any other theories on why Rich/WVU and/or Michigan would do this?

Nothing new — I think he’s trying to make a clean break from the Pitt fiasco. Not that it makes it any easier for WV fans….

  3. All is good in Morgantown tonight. You can sleep soundly. A good source at BGN has broken the news that he met with Michigan peeps to turn the job down.

Now that’s two major programs in two years. Hopefully these big programs will learn they can’t get our boy.

    He’s a Mountaineer dammit.
