Out-of-season woes continue to plague WVU football. Now #9 Jock Sanders has been arrested for drinking and driving. What next?
Anyway, apparently speeding near campus, Sanders got pulled and the cop could “smell” alcohol on his breath. Then he failed 3 out or 4 test and blew a .125 and the legal limit in WV is .08. In other words he had about 4 beers.
One of the bigger issues he’ll have is that he is only 20 years old. So on top of the DUI he’ll get an Underage Drinking charge. UGH!
This is the second time he’s been in trouble in Morgantown. DAMMIT! He’s a key part of the WVU offense. I hope Stewart and the University takes care of this the right way. ie – not kicking him off the team!
What do you guys think should happen to him?

ZERO TOLERANCE from here on out
Jock’s mistake is inexcusable. It’s really difficult, however, for a 20 yr old college student who’s in a Top 5 party school year after year to NOT drink and drive a hot car such as a Dodge Charger.
If Stew kicks him off the team no big loss. He and Doc assembled the best recruting class ever, right?
Considering he hasn’t raped any farm animals, I’d say Sanders is one of the lesser criminals on this joke (ryhmes with choke!) of a team.
speaking of “choke” of a team.. how did pitt do in it’s bowl game this year?
Jock made his bed and now he has to lay in it. It sucks for him but he should know better. He should not get any special treatment because he is a football player. What are Stewarts rules for this kind of stuff?
Not sure Chris. But you raise an interesting question. What is special treatment? If you weren’t a star football player, what would the school do if you got a DUI? would they even know? would they do anything.???
It seems like WVU has come down with a bad rash of “problem children” the last few years. I don’t think kicking him off the team would be the appropriate answer, but this goes on year after year and a precedent must be set. If that means making Jock the example then so be it, bench him for the first 3 games, move him tosecond string, something, but make these kids realize that playing D-1 ball is a privlidge and not a right, and they had better start getting their acts together.
Just because Jock is a “key part of the WVU offence” doesn’t make him above the law or KING of the football squad. I don’t care if his reading was ‘only .125 or about 4 beers’, he was drinking and driving, therefore breaking the law. Is this a “three strikes and you’re out” situation…only one more to go? Sounds to me like you’re for a ‘slap on the hands’, then let him go kind of person. Shame on you. Is the team more important than all else? I think not!
This is Jock’s 2nd offense and I agree that it is tough for a kid to not make mistakes. But this is the 2nd one in a year. do these names ring a bell (Pacman Jones/ Chris Henry)… where will his end or will they??? He has to be punished just like anyone else.
and I thought Devine was going to be the problem child…my mistake.
Tough decision for the staff. He needs to deal the consequences and serve his punishment, but the coaches can’t give up on the kid.
here is coach stews view on this:
” Jock just made a mistake , he’s gonna be ok were gonna get him help. I wanna make sure he gets an education class and then he’s going to be on the short short leash for a long time . “
On the bright side, you guys at least admit Sanders should be punished. And you don’t have half the criminals that they do up in State College, that P(S)U fans continually make exuses for.
30 years ago,..I know lots of people that had a beer or two and drove in their parking lot at Bon Vista. Several are prominent doctors, lawyers and busnbiess people. I’m just glad I’m not 20 anymore. I feel bad for you kids in this society now.
The same as anybody else in Tx. Stay on the team,..for gods sake chill out Jock. These are conservative times. It ain’t 1978 anymore.
this was very helpful to me thanks.
How would losing jock sanders not be a big deal. He is a huge part of an already shaky wvu offense. He may actually be the biggest weapon on the offense. Last year he was a more consistent runner than devine and a huge part of the passing game. If we could lose anyone and be fine itd be bill stewart. Stewart didnt only bring down a great program with all the pieces last year he was the mastermind behind one of the worst special team units in the nation.
On another note he does need to get in trouble but kicking him off the team is something i dont wanna see as a wvu fan. Im definately holding a double standard with him but when you look at some of the stuff college athletes get away with nowadays this really not a huge incident.
