Coal Bowl Nixed or Merry Xmas Marshall

Coal Bowl NixedIt looks like the WVU vs. Marshall instate “coal bowl rivalry” will end after the 2012 season. Mike Garrison, the new president of WVU, said he doesn’t believe there is any reason to keep the Coal Bowl alive.

WVU’s President Mike Garrison told the Charleston Daily Mail he can’t think of a way to make it financially feasible to do a home and home series with Marshall past the commitment to 2012.

You can read more about this and see Gov. Manchin’s response here.

I’ve been bitching about this stupid bowl since its conception. Manchin thought it would be a good idea to showcase the two schools. I think it has done nothing but make WVU’s schedule weak and wasted my time. Marshall sucks and is just getting worse every year. Why do we even have to finish the commitment to 2012? WVU should just buy out the contract and start scheduling better out of conference games starting NEXT YEAR!

The argument that the Coal Bowl sheds a positive light on the state of WV is a load of crap. This whole situation was just a political ploy by Manchin and was some sort of favor for the Friends of Coal lobbyists. I’ve ranted about this already back in September so I won’t go into why I hate the idea of promoting coal.

This is a great Xmas present to Marshall! BWAHAHAHAHA. Good riddance Coal Bowl!
