Benedict Arnold aka Rich Rodriguez: GONE will not coach Fiesta Bowl
By MountaineerBob on Dec 16, 2007 in Coaching
I’ve been on the forums all day today and it’s been a roller coaster ride. He’s Gone. He’s Staying.
Well it’s official now. He’s gone. He’s going to Michigan and taking Pryor with him. He’s been recruiting on WVU’s dime. He is officially the slimy bastard everyone thought he might be. What the fuck.
I don’t know what to think. It’s been a crazy 24 hours.
Now we have to move on and get over yet another major blow to our pshyche. Who now? Fisher? Bowden? Maybe it was time he left. Maybe we need some new blood to get us excited for next year.
Ugh.

This site now officially endorses Ohio State as it’s favorite team in the Big 10. Go Red.

Dang! I really do hate that because I think it drastically takes away from what would have been a great Fiesta Bowl match-up.
MountaineerBob | Dec 16, 2007 | Reply
Yeah I agree, but I want to say that the team is pissed as hell.
Dykes was quoted saying “You are not even going to coach us in the Fuc*ing bowl game either?” and then RR walked out.
They are going to have a chip on their shoulder and want to prove to the world that they, THE TEAM, are what got to the bowl game, not the slimy coach. It will still be a good game.

we are still WVU PROUD. Coach Rod, thanks for the short ride, but don’t let the door hit you in the ass. now we have to fit Michigan in our schedule somehow. NOW, come together and kick some Sooner ass.
MountaineerBob | Dec 16, 2007 | Reply
amen brother! we are WVU the team not WVU the coach.
Good luck in Michigan and playing against tOSU. Hell now I’m even going to pull for PENN STATE. This is the best thing for Joe Pa ever he just got about 150,000 new fans.
Time to move on and focus fast on OU. If we can go in and show everyone that it’s the TEAM that has played so well this year and not the coaches, it will take the school a long way.
At least now I’ll be able to get season tickets and a blue lot pass next year!!! Always looking for the positives.

And the Walls continue to fall in Morgantown!! HA HA HA HA HA I don’t want to say I told you so, but I told you so. Next to happen on my list of predictions - Slaton to go pro! He is losing interest since Devine is taking carries from him. Pitt has done more than I could have imagined with the WVU upset. Recruiting has been strong and hopefully wins will follow. Go PITT!

I feel betrayed. I am more upset about the lies he told than the fact that he is leaving. And I feel he betrayed his players the worst. They were counting on their coach for the bowl game. We can’t have him coaching the game. Doesn’t honesty and loyalty count for anything anymore? Coach Rod lied last year (Alamba) and he has lied to everyone again this year.
Sharbear | Dec 16, 2007 | Reply
I can’t take the drama anymore. That’s all this is, drama drama drama. Is it worth getting your heart broken three times since Sept? Southern FL, Pitt, and now this. Well good riddance.

Panhandle EER | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
Honor, integrity, commitment and above all loyalty to WVU were the supposed backbone of Rich Rodriguez’s beliefs. We should all feel like fools to have bought into his drivel. It should have been greed, personal ego, and disception. Last year I felt sick about the Alabama rumor, now I feel as if the entire state and the student athletes this so called leader cared so much about have been betrayed. One could spout off the great things he did for the program and how he “put us on the map”, but what does the end result of this move do? Tear the very foundation of what you have built out from underneath all that is WV football. Honor, integrity and commitment. Stay true Mountaineer fans and believe in the end you reap what you sew.

As an OSU alum and fan, ‘neer fans should take some heart in knowing that R-Rod won’t last long at Michigan. He isn’t a “Michigan Man”, and he won’t really grasp the importance of the OSU-Michigan game. He’ll lose a couple of big games and then move onto another program with a lot of money at its disposal. I mean come on, the guy leaves his frickn’ alma mater that is loaded with talent? He’s obviously about ego, proving he is the best in the biz, so he will go where the money and resources are located. Bobby Petrino has some new competition.
jwilson | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
Now when OSU plays Michigan I will have to be for the CrookEyes. That will be very, very difficult.
I’m not going to say he is a bad person, but I really think he’s making a bad career choice. He was a saint in WV. He could have went 7-5 for a long time and still kept his job.
Now he gets to go to Mich, win the 7 hand-me games the Big Ten allows each year, and be back at Glenville by 2010.
Beat Visitor | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
Every one of these coaching moves just makes me appreciate how lucky we at RU are to have found Greg Schiano. I was really worried that he would take the Michigan job (it was much more tempting than last year’s Thug U offer); I now believe that he means everything he says about being at Rutgers for the long term.
That being said, I hope that R-Rod’s betrayal of his school doesn’t bring your team down though. Go out there and massacre the Sooners for the honor of the Big East!

After this, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Shiano leave as well. Hell, RR is from WV and went to school at WVU. Those are some serious ties.
Robb | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
In all reality it’s a damn good thing that Coach Fraud jumped ship. When you humiliate yourself, the team, the state, and the WVU nation by loosing to Pitt then its time to get out when to still can. They should have fired his “Maze and Blue” ass on December 2nd. Enjoy Michigan…… Judas.

It’s been a BAD month for West Virginia Football. First, WVU tries to “cheat” but ends up losing to Pitt, and now, Rich has left WVU for a much “better” place.

I think WV Governor Joe Manchin might run for the Governor of Michigan next year. It apperas that West Virginia’s best have now moved to Michigan.
big_bair | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
Just my 2 cents worth, but let’s look at the bright side. RR probably made the best move he could make for himself right now. In turn, he’s doing the best thing for WVU too, though he didn’t intend it that way.
It’s good for Rod because:
basically the reason he didn’t leave last year is because he knew he couldn’t win consistently in the SEC with his gimmick system. You have to be able to run, pass and play defense in that conference to win. Since he only knows how to do one of those three things, his success would have been limited. In the Big 10 however, it’s easier. The media loves the Big 10, so after the 7 or so automatic wins, basically all you have to do is beat Ohio State and you’ve got yourself a shot at the national championship. Only problem for Rod will be Jim Tressel. He got outcoached by Dave Wanstedt for crying out loud. How is he gonna compete with Tressel?
It’s good for WVU because:
we get a new coach. We’ve already got some national recognition now but people were starting to figure out Rod’s system (i.e. load the box to stop the run, play physical on the outside receivers to eliminate the swing pass, completely ignore deep downfield because we never throw downfield anyway so there’s no need to worry about that). Maybe now we’ll actually get a real defense too and scrap that stupid 3-3-5 system where everybody drops back in coverage to cover nobody.

“Now he gets to go to Mich, win the 7 hand-me games the Big Ten allows each year….”
As opposed to the 7 hand-me games the Big East allows each year…and the Mountaineers STILL can’t go undefeated in their crap ass conference.
big_bair | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
Notice I never said the Big East was better, only that the Big 10 gets more media attention. Your other post matching up the Big East/Big 10 schools was probably pretty close. However under the current system, it will be a whole lot easier for Michigan to go to a national championship than it will be for WVU, even if both went undefeated. Chances are if that happened, Michigan would go hands down while WVU would be overlooked for a 1 loss team from another conference “Power” conference. This despite both conferences being about equal even by your concessions.

Look for an outside runner for the head coaching position by Shepherd’s Monte Cater. He could be a surprise, promote from within candidate for the position.
Rob | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
Coach Fraud is a fuckin ‘giner. Guarantee he fails in the Big House. He’s a damn idiot, too. He’s leaving behind a better team than he’s inheriting. But shit, who made a Beline to Michingan last year? and we got a better coach out of that so hopefully we get a better coach out of this. Then RichFraud and Behind can suck each others cocks in the snow.
Rob | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
Oh yeah did you hear that Richfraud called Pryor up before he told anyone else that he had decided to go to Michigan? Apparently he’s tryin to bang him.
Jim | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
It is my thought that Coach Fraud put his name in for the job well before the public got wind of him talking to Meesh-i-gun. I feel that he could not take the fire that came at him after the Pitt fiasco and he saw the prestige and $ that goes along with the job at MU. Bottom line: He is a freakin’ sell-out and a false Mountaineer. A true Mountaineer would have respected the job and not drained our great university for all he could get and take the money and run. By the way, his ass better honor his contract and pay the $4 million buyout. He’s an big ass!!!

A very good source told me that Bud Foster (Def. Coordinator at Va. Tech) is on his way to Motown to interview for the job. He is a 2 time winner of the Def. Coordinator of the year in NCAA football. He would most likey need a good Offensive Coordinator. Any recommendations on a good offensive coach?

Hey Pittpat…you know what they say about Pittsburgh?…It’s full of fuckin Giners and you’re one of ‘em. DubV has a better team, better campus, hotter girls and more fun. Your school sucks and thats what really matters. Our coach just proved that he sucks as bad as yours…thats about it.
Robb | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
This whole Beline issue is a no longer valid at this point. I was never really that upset because he wasn’t “one of us.” Just look at the basketball program today we got Huggins and they are stuck with Beline. Who made out better on that deal? Rich Rodriguez (no one should referrer to his Coach at this point) had ties to the state and University. He took the cowardly way out of Morgantown and should not show his face around there again.
Chad | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
My name is Chad and I go to Glenville State, the last place Rich Rod coached at before WVU.
Its not about Love For the Game or Players Anymore!!!!! Its all about the $$$$$$$.. This Rich Rod leaving? Good riddins to him. 2008 season is National Champs year. How good would it be to kick some Wolverine Ass. Lets bring in Bowden !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Slaton & White you have to come back for one more season, beating Rich Rod will be so worth it.

Carla | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
If you gave RR a skirt and put him on a street corner he could pass for a whore. He would sell himself to anyone. It’s just like the man that allows his wife to put him through school, have his children and clean up his shit, then when he is making good money,he leaves his loyal wife for another woman. Take my word for it–don’t bend over in front of him or he’ll screw you up the a@#!
Beezner | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
Hey PittPat,
I’d rather have Michelle Rodriguez coaching WVU than Dave Wannestadt. As long as that clueless hack is parading the sideline for the Pittsburgh Pussycats, it’s always a sunny day in Morgantown. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes and Wannestadt finally got his on December 1. I just hope idiots like you keep endorsing him so your program can continue to be irrelevant.
Carla | Dec 17, 2007 | Reply
RR has forgotten a very important lesson in life. NEVER FORGET WHERE YOU CAME FROM. I learned that lesson from a world renowned physicain I worked with in Houston. That was something he lived by each and everyday, he said it was the key to success. That a person who did not live by that rule would sooner or later fail at his or her profession. I hope he’s happy when “THE BIG HOUSE” walls crumble in on top of him.

While driving on Interstate 79 south on my way to the WVU/Pitt game two weeks ago, I noticed that the WV state sign ready “Welcome to West Virginia: Open For Business!” However, after the BIG upset, a group of friends from Pittsburgh are going to donate a sign saying “On December 1, 2007 West Virginia is CLOSED for Business!” Go Pitt!!!

Yinz and y’all oughta check out some espn strings on this subject. One very interesting notion about the Pitt loss. Lloyd Carr quits on Nov. 19, but his imminent leaving is in the wind months before. Wheels turn in Ann Arbor, no time for the long list–let’s go to other major programs’ short list. Miles. No Les, no more. Schiano. . . gone-o. Hmmmmm, WVU, another pretty good coach down there. RR contacted let’s say sometime over Thanksgiving, gets hot read. RR thinks: Hmmmm, can’t get into national championship game and then bolt. How can I give Pitt a sporting chance? Limit carries to Slaton, bingo. Even if Pat White goes out for a big part of the game? Against any previous trend? WVU scores 9 points at home? 66 the week before? Sheeyat, Pat White can score 21 points calling his own plays.
Hmmm, why is the entire offense coaching staff moving?
Bottom line: UM is an overweight, overbearing john who was turned down by two whores before finding one who wanted the cash just enough to go to bed with.
Carla | Dec 19, 2007 | Reply
Duke S, you may be right on the money. We’ve all been saying the same things down here in Houston. The timing of Les Miles press conf. and then within a few hours coached LSU to a SEC conf championship game. Les Miles is staying put and before we know it WV lost to Pitt. Does it make you wonder if perhaps a phone call was made by RR to Les Miles between games just to make sure he REALLY didn’t want the MU job? He’d be free at that point. A loss to Pitt would mean he’d not have to stay and coach a NC game. Food for thought. I wouldn’t put anything past anyone after what has happened in the last 3 weeks. I think the entire AD should be wiped out of WV. This is a ROYAL screw up. We’ve all heard that Ann Arbor in a whore–now she has her “John” and his name is Rich Rod. Think we should make some t-shirts with those sentiments on it?!
