3 Mountaineers get picked in the ‘08 NFL Draft

Just a quick rundown of how our “former” boys in Gold and Blue fared in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Steve Slaton went first out of the 3 Mountaineers that got the call over the weekend. He went in the 3rd Round and was the 89th pick. He’ll be playing for the Houston Texans.

Owen Schmitt went next in the 5th round, 163rd Pick by the Seattle Seahawks. It was reported they wanted him and looks like they got him. I can’t wait to see Schmitt on the field this fall. I’m actually shocked  and  awed by this late pick. It seems everyone thought he would go earlier than 5th round.

Ryan Mundy got picked up by his home town team the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 6th Round, 194th pick. He’s staying close to home close to his Alma Mater. I’m sure we’ll see him down in Motown on Saturdays this fall.

Reynauld, Dingle, Magro, Wicks and Dykes didn’t get the call, but I’m sure they will fit into a program somewhere out there they will just have to work a little harder to make the cut at training camp.

WVMountaineerSports.com would like to congratulate all of the players that were picked and wish them the best in there professional careers.

*The Big East had 19 drafted players in all and 2 players, Pitts Jeff Otah and USF’s Mike Jenkins, went in the 1st Round.

    MB,
Good article (as usual), but Mundy is sort of a traitor. He reportedly was working out at UM with a former WVU strength coach. I think he is actually a Michigan man that rode on the Mountaineer coat-tail to get where he is today. He never actually graduated from WVU, but used that now defunct transfer rule to get some playing time and improve his standing for the draft. I’m still glad he was here to help us through the season and the bowl, but I don’t think we’ll see much of him anymore.

    Keep up the good work!
    Jim

Jim, you’re right (as usual). At least he was smart enough to know that if he wanted to win he had to come to WVU… only time will tell if he shows any loyalty to the Mounties though. I’m sure the folks in Michigan probably think of him as a traitor too.

He’ll probably end up wearing a PITT jersey when all is said and done. That would be the ultimate traitor move in my book.

I am VERY excited to say I have season tickets to the Texans and will finally be able to watch Slaton play on Sunday. He should have a quick impact because Greene is always out with a knee injury, Dayne is an up the middle type guy, Brown ??? We just do not have anyone like Steve. In the paper today Steve is being called “our Reggie Bush”!! Remember to cheer for the Texans this year!!!

I just hope Slaton can stay healthy. He was a little injury prone during his stay at WVU, and those guys in the NFL hit much harder then the chimps at Pitt.
