Because of the popularity of these sites, more and more social networking sites that are geared toward specific interests and activities are popping up every day. Below you’ll find ten social networking sites designed specifically for athletes. You’ll find that these sites are a great way to share training techniques, stay motivated, share successes and make new friends.

  1. Athlinks – this site is designed for competitive endurance athletes. Within the site you’ll find local clubs and plenty of links to help you find all the gear you need in addition to finding other people who share your interests.
  2. Comenplay – Come n play is designed for people who stay active. You’ll find enthusiasts from many different sports on this site. It’s a great way to find sports teams to join or find other people interested in your favorite sport for discussion, friendship and a match. The site requires membership to use it, but membership is free.
  3. Zexsports – a great site for extreme athletes, this site puts those people who love the extreme sports in touch with each other. You’ll find lists of upcoming extreme sports events and you can login through your Facebook account.
  4. Takkle –This site is specifically designed for high school athletes and coaches. Sponsored by Sports Illustrated, the site lets high school athletes meet others who share their sport.
  5. Swimroom – A site for swimmers, this site is geared more toward competitive swimmers, but will be interesting to anyone who loves the sport. Champion swimmers like Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff are supporters of the site.
  6. Sk8site – Designed for skateboarding enthusiasts, this site allows skaters to meet each other, keep up with upcoming events in the skateboarding world and post videos from their most extreme skating stunts.
  7. Motorcross –A site for Motorcross enthusiasts, you’ll find lots of news about the world of Motorcross on this site in addition to the social networking aspect.
  8. SkiSpace – This site was created for snow skiers by champion Bode Miller. There are great videos of skiing, blogs by skiers and social networking as well. It’s also a great place to find a ski resort for your next vacation.
